As a Western woman, continuing the teaching of the tradition of India’s most ascetic yoga masters is an unusual and rare case. Despite the difficulties of combining the path of a yoga master with family and social obligations, Mai Ram raised two daughters and always faithfully followed her calling – yoga. In 2010, the yoga Teacher founded the Mai Ram Yoga ashram in Vilnius, where she began to spread the classical teaching of yoga. Her knowledge of chemistry and psychology allowed her to adapt the complex classical teaching of yoga to Westerners, resulting in the creation of the Mai Ram Yoga system. This integrated practice, which connects body, mind, and spirit, is designed to help modern people develop self-knowledge, mindfulness, and master the body and mind.

Nath tradition

The Natha (Sanskrit "nātha" – Lord, Master) tradition is a deep, ancient spiritual school of India, authentic and preserving the genuine teachings of Tantra and Yoga. It is an independent philosophical and practical system aimed at achieving liberation through the transformation of body and consciousness. The founder of this lineage is Adi Natha Shiva. The Nathas materialized tantric ideas in practice through the system of yoga, creating a detailed map of how tantric cosmology is realized within the human body.

Mahasiddhas

Mahasiddhas are exceptional spiritual masters who have reached the highest level of yoga and tantric practice. The term "mahasiddha" in Sanskrit means "great accomplisher of perfection." Mahasiddhas are masters of yoga and tantra, practitioners who, through their deep devotion to spiritual practice, have gained supernatural powers (siddhis) and perfection. They guard secrets about extraordinary supernatural powers, but their goal is not these powers alone—they manifest as a side effect of deep spiritual practice. Mahasiddhas emphasize that true wisdom comes from personal experience, not from books or theoretical knowledge. Their lives are dedicated to intense practices and meditation, which allow them to experience the highest state of consciousness. To this day, Mahasiddhas pass on their knowledge directly only to prepared disciples through initiations and secret teachings. Their wisdom is based on deep practice and inner realization. They guard the methods of yoga, tantra, and alchemy.

The true Guru comes through a lineage of teachers

Guru Parampara is like a living river, flowing from the original source of wisdom to the present day. The yoga tradition specifies that a true Guru must come through a lineage of teachers. He must be initiated according to the tantric ritual transmission - Shakti pata. Shakti pata is the direct descent of Divine energy, and therefore a true Guru is not just a Teacher, a personality, or a spiritual authority. He is a vessel of consciousness through which Divine power touches a person. When a teaching is transmitted through a Guru, it is not just a theory or philosophy - it is a living experience that has already been practiced, validated, and rooted for millennia. The Teacher, being part of this lineage, carries within himself not a personal opinion, but the continuity of eternal wisdom. Guru Parampara, the living lineage of Teachers, is a sacred chain that connects the disciple to the highest source. The tradition does not recognize teachings without a Guru Parampara lineage and emphasizes that without a Guru, even knowledge of the scriptures is fruitless. The Teacher transmits a living state of conscious experience, not just knowledge of the scriptures. Without such transmission, the teaching remains intellectual, lifeless, and incomplete.

What is a spiritual name in the yoga tradition and how is it given?

A Guru bestows a spiritual name upon their disciples. In the yoga tradition, a spiritual name is the transmission of Shakti's power, the establishment of direction, and the birth of a new identity or the beginning of the ego's transformation. Therefore, initiation into a spiritual name is considered a second birth. The spiritual name is transmitted through initiation (diksha), the granting of a mantra, and connection with the Lineage of Masters. A spiritual name is a sign of the teaching lineage, spiritual power, protection, and the sadhaka's commitment to walk the spiritual path of the teaching lineage. The spiritual name helps the sadhaka transcend old self-projections, establishes direction and stability, constantly reminds of the goal, and strengthens inner discipline. Therefore, the sadhaka's life must correspond to their spiritual name: their actions – the energy of the spiritual name, their speech – its meaning, and their heart – the vibration of the spiritual name. In the Nath Sampradaya, the spiritual name Ram is a sign of belonging to the lineage and is like a signature of living fire.

Bhagavad Gita

3 h 35 min

The Bhagavad Gita ("The Song of the Lord", 4th-3rd century BC) — is one of the most prominent literary-philosophical works not only of ancient India, but of all humanity. The Bhagavad Gita teaches that a person freed from passion and fear, having passed through the purifying flame of wisdom, reaches a state of union with the Absolute, Brahman. In its artistic suggestiveness and power of thought, it is equal to the Book of Job, Ecclesiastes, the Tao Te Ching, the Epistles of St. Paul, or Plato.
